About the role
The Patent Specialist resides within the Intellectual Property (IP) Innovation, Technology, and Policy team and supports NBCUniversal's global patent program. Working closely with the team's lawyers and administrative staff, the Patent Specialist will coordinate patent filings and inventor-related processes, maintain patent and document management systems, track deadlines and costs, and help improve operational workflows.
What you'll do
- Support invention evaluation processes by tracking metrics and organizing documentation.
- Collect and manage inventor information; coordinate national phase instruction letters and support inventor filing and patent awards.
- Consistently maintain patent and document management systems.
- Process invoices and support patent cost-tracking initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and collaboration, including designing tools to automate transactional processes.
- Proactively develop and maintain policies, procedures, forms, and best practices.
- Contribute to special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience in a professional role requiring organizational skills and attention to detail, preferably at a law firm or comparable corporate setting.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and workload management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; self-directed.
Nice to have
- Experience in patent prosecution or familiarity with domestic and international patent processes.
- Experience with IP docketing and patent management systems, including Computer Packages, Inc.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools.
Schedule
Hybrid — a minimum of four days per week from the Universal City, CA office.
Pay & benefits
Salary Range: $65,000–$85,000/yr. Eligible for company-sponsored benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid leave, and tuition reimbursement.
