About the role
Open competitive recruitment, open to all qualified candidates. Under supervision, performs entry-level professional electrical engineering work in an electric utility.
What you'll do
- Makes detail design and construction drawings for rebuilding or adding to electrical generation, transmission or distribution facilities.
- Prepares specifications and detailed materials lists for electrical power system facilities.
- Performs field work such as inspecting power poles, primary and secondary lines, transformers, and electric line extension/replacement work.
- Investigates transformer loads and determines overloaded transformers; investigates complaints concerning low lines and related problems.
- Performs elementary system load flow, stability, and short circuit studies.
- Prepares calculations for transmission and distribution system relay settings and voltage regulation.
- Prepares data for reports to governmental and industrial agencies; maintains records and charts of system load growth.
- Drives on City business.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university (or a related engineering/science field with upper-class electrical engineering coursework); college seniors may apply.
- Registration as an Electrical Engineer in California may substitute for the education requirement.
- Valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent at time of appointment.
- Knowledge of principles of electricity, physics and mathematics, electrical drafting methods and equipment, and transformer/transmission line characteristics.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Certification as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of California.

Salary Range: $97,123.52–$133,885.70/yr
